My two GPs never stop squealing when I hold them. They are very chatty. Even when they are being petted and are falling asleep they chatter - not loudly, like when they want food, but just their usual constant squeakings. But you mentioned a "chirping" sound. One of my GPs sometimes makes this sound (it is very distinct, really like a bird chirping) when I turn off the lights in my room. I'm not sure what it means, but when I turn on the lights and pet her she stops. As long as your GPs aren't trying desperately to escape when you are holding them, then my guess would be they are just "talking."
