Susanna,

Someone answered your question about using a trimmer (I bought a cat trimmer 
at PetSmart for $10).  I concur with the towel idea.  If you have trouble, 
try distracting with a favorite fresh veggie.  My piggie is very motivated 
by food and nothing seems to bother her while she is enjoying a green 
pepper.  She also has some dark nails which I leave a bit longer just in 
case.
