I picked up Portia this morning. Her little body was so much smaller after
the mass had been removed. There is a certain relief in knowing that there
was essentially nothing that could be done. Post-mortem findings were pretty
shocking, considering that she showed absolutely NO symptoms, other than
drinking a lot the past year. The recurring UTIs, as we found, were not as
they seemed...

She had a large tumor on her kidney. She had a transitional cell carcinoma
inside her bladder, which apparently is pretty rare in a guinea pig.
Finally, she had a small ovarian cyst. The last time she had an x-ray was
February 2002, when a mammary tumor was removed. She had been a perky piggy
all her life. Sigh.
