[Gpdd] care: teeth

I always enjoy reading about everyone's pig antics and such and also have
gained lots of knowledge and insight as to the PROPER care of our pig
friends. I have another health related question I was hoping someone could
help me with. Some of you may recall our pigs (I don't post too often),
Poopsie (around 2-3 yrs, we got her from rescue shelter) and Sniffles (1
yr). We've had them both for a little over 1 year. Thankfully, we haven't
had to take either to the vet thus far. So, here's my question.how often
should a pigs teeth be checked by a vet, if ever, when no apparent problems
exist? Should we check them ourselves? If so, do they tend to bite during
the "inspection"? I've always been a little skeptical about putting my
fingers near their mouths even though they are the sweetest piggies ever!
I've never really seen their teeth other than when we make them stretch up
high to reach parsley. Incidentally, what does it cost for a trip to the
vet for a checkup? What about teeth trimming? We live in Virginia but I
would imagine the costs are relatively similar elsewhere. Thanks and have a
great wheeeek..!

Sue
