Hello Debbie

I was so sorry to read of Poivre's death. I'm a little
behind on the digest, so I just read your post
tonight. You have had to make some tuff decisions. I
know how hard it is to give injections to a guinea
pig. I had to give mine an injection for diabetes
twice a day. Their skin is tuff and shots hurt. When
mine had and upper respiratory infection, the vet gave
one shot and sent me home with liquid antibiotics.
Maybe you could buy a guinea pig vet book like
"Diseases of Domestic Guinea Pig" by V.C.G.
Richardson. I have used this book many times and I
used to take it with me to my vet's office when I
didn't have an exotic vet. I have to drive and hour
and half to the nearest exotic vet, but at least I
found one. It gives treatments and doses for guinea
pigs for pneumonia and all other ailments. You could
buy one for your vet as well. I would always try to
cure pneumonia because it can be cured.
Big changes in temperatures causes pneumonia a lot of
the time. Try to keep the pigs in a consistant
temperature. It's hard to do that if they are outside
though. I keep mine inside and I keep the thermastat
on 70 degrees year round. I have never had one with
pneumonia or even an upper respiratory infection.
Hopefully, you will not have any more problems with
pneumonia. I will send you all the information in my
vet book on pneumonia, if you would like. Just let me
know.

Dawnda
