I know of 3 types of human allergies to guinea pigs.

Some people break out in HUGE hives whenever they touch a GP.

My niece has the runny nose, itchy eyes, sore throat allergy.  She's 11 and wants a furry pet so badly.  We thought a GP might be good for her so she played with them when she came to visit.  It was an allergy disaster.  Her mom and dad even like the GP's so they could have been the pet for her if her allergies had not acted up.

My sister-in-law who is deathly allergic to cats (asthma attacks that put her in the ER) is almost equally allergic to the GP's.  She can be in a house with GP's longer than with cats.

And to think, I got guinea pigs as pets because on one in the family had been documented as being allergic to them!  I'm allergic to tons of things but not guinea pigs.
