Brandi Lynn Moran brandimoran at charter.net

on guinea lynx (www.guinealynx.info) they have great "social life" links..

but if you have a particulary hard to get along pig.. they suggest bathing
all the pigpeople and then they are so traumatized by the bath.. they all
bond.. cuz they dont hate eachother anymore.. they hate YOU!! hehehee..

> Hi Deb
>
> I found your email about pneumonia. I own guinea pigs and rabbits. For
guinea pigs, giving Vit. C will GREATLY reduce their getting pneumonia. My
recommendation is Oxbow's Xtra C tablet. This cut down on my guinea pigs
getting this problem and the C vit. (which has to be a good one) was
recommended by San Diego Avian and Exotic. They will do consultations with
other vets by phone for a fee.

nowhere else to go but to the emergency clinic. The drained it and sent us
home with antibiotics and some kind of salve to keep the wound open, and I
had to flush it out with water 2 times a day with a syringe. Monday morning
we followed up with our regular vet who informed me that the only way to
handle this was to surgically remove the abcess and the sac containing it.
In the meantime we continued with antibiotics, pain med, salve and flushing
it out. Unfortunately, this was the beginning of the end for my baby. He
got real bad with various things and before we could get to surgery, we had
to put him down. It was terrible. He also was over 5 years old. If he was
younger, he probably wouldn't have had the plethera of problems develop and
I'm sure would have had surgery and been just fine. Good luck.

> This was a discussion once before on the board. The closest thing I could
find was in the "Disease of Domestic Guinea Pigs" by V.C.G. Richardson:
>
> Intussusception: "This condition has been recorded in a guinea pig after
a bout of diarhoea. The initial scouring appeared to resolve after 5 days
and then the guinea pig began to pass small amounts of blood mixed with firm
motions. A day later it passed a 10 cm section of gut and the condition
resolved completely."

> Probably doesn't entirely fit your case, but other than a miscarriage I
can't find anything close to what you described. Someone else on the board
may have another idea.
>
> I wanted to thank everyone for their help with Molly, Abby and Phoebe's
skin problems. Molly & Abby tested positive for mites and the ivermectin
has helped them; Phoebe's hair has started to come back in (finally). So we
have our fingers crossed here.
