Thank you all for your posts both here and directly to offer your thoughts
and prayers for the little guy, George the guinea pig. Recently Alge, Tina and
several others have inquired about his condition. Thank you for such an honor
to have his well being be something you think about and would think enough to
inquire about. So here is the latest report on our "Boy." Since being diagnosed
with a mass on his liver and the cysts in one of his kidneys his mother
discovered a lump under his chin. Well, as always he was taken directly to the vet,
Dr. Mock of the West Caldwell Animal Hospital who examined him. Her
examination revealed the lump to be an abscess. It was of significant size so she said
it needed to be lanced and he would have to go under anesthesia for the
procedure. She would also take blood to check the liver enzymes (reference his liver
function). At the time he went to the vet he was 38 and some tenths ounces.
Well, the lancing went fine and he has a drain under his chin which will be
removed in about a week. For the next week, he gets a warm compress 3 times a day
on the drain area and the drain needs to be rotated a bit each time. He also
gets .02 cc's of TriMeth Sulfa for two weeks. His blood count revealed his red
and white blood cells normal and within the normal range. His liver enzymes
were slightly elevated but not to an extreme. He was also down to 35 ounces, a
loss of 3 ounces after the surgery. Since then his mother has been attending
to his medical needs and he has had EVERY vegetable he likes including corn,
watermelon and even cooked and seasoned snap peas from my dish. His mother
weighed him tonight and he is up to 37 and some tenths Oz. Overall, George is
eating like he was never sick a day in his life. and things at the "other end" are
just fine as well. He gets at least 5 cc.s of critical care at EVERY meal and
has come to actually like it and takes it from a spoon. So your prayers and
best wish have helped his mother, me and the little "Boy" a great deal. With
Gods grace and the love George gets ALL the time he will make it through this
for a while longer. Thank you ALL for your thoughts and your concern. It is a
tribute to a little guy with bushy hair to have so many of you wish him well.
Sincerely,
Joseph C. Petrillo, George the guinea pigs daddy
