Hi Carla

Yes, guinea pigs sleep with their eyes open. If they
close them in the wild, they will get eaten. 
If the Bud feels totally safe, he will close his eyes.
I've noticed that as they get older, they will close
their eyes and sleep deep. They are harder to wake up.
I don't know whether they are used to their
surroundings or if they sleep deeper as they age.
That may be why they tend to only live a couple of
years in the wild.
