Hello Beki

I am so sorry that you had to put Gemma to sleep. That
is the most terrible thing that you have to decide to
do. Bumblefoot can get really bad fast and most of us
don't pick our guinea pigs up everyday and examine
their feet. When it progesses that fast, it is very
hard to get the foot better.
I seen a case of bumblefoot in a pet store once. It
was swollen and bleeding badly. You could tell she was
in pain and I had a fit. I wouldn't leave the store
until she called the owner to get her to a vet.
Guinea pigs don't show pain very often, so she must
have been in a lot of pain to be crying out. I think
you did the right thing by getting her out of pain.
When a vet starts giving the option to put an animal
to sleep, that means they are really bad and probably
will not get better.
You could have lived a terrible couple more weeks of
her crying in pain and force feeding her, just to have
to put her to sleep anyway. Then you would have been
saying I wish I would have put her to sleep early so
she wouldn't have had to go through all this pain. We
always find a way to beat ourselves up over things
like this. I send my deepest condolences to you and
Daphie. Maybe, you can get her another companion
sometime in the future. Just give her more love and
attention now since she is lonely.

Dawnda
