Lauren-
I had the same experience with my piggies. I tried Rainbow and Fiesta and a
couple others. They especially loved to pick out the orange bits. So I was
hesitant to go with
just pellets, even though I knew it would be better for them. When my friend
in Tulsa
who raises gps recommended the Mazuri pellets, I decided to try them. They
are mostly
pellets with a very few tiny white bits mixed in for variety, and they love
them! At first
I thought they were timothy-based, but now have discovered they are
alfalfa-based.
I wrote to the company to see if they offer one with alfalfa and they don't.
They wrote
back several times and assured me that they have carefully created the
pellets to be
a completely balanced food for guinea pigs, including amounts of calcium,
etc.. But as
Snowy and CocoPuff will be a year old this spring, I am considering mixing
this with the
Cavy Cuisine. Mainly because with the shipping costs the CC is a bit
pricey. When I first got the piggies, I fed them pellets I got from the
feed store where we bought them, which looked like plain pellets with some
Fruit Loops mixed in! They like them OK, but they just measured them out
into a plain brown paper bag, so I'm not sure of the content.
But we've come a long way from the cheap and colorful 'stuff' we started
with!
If anyone is interested in checking out the Mazuri feeds, their website is:
