Hi everyone,
I am new to the Gpdd, having recently adopted a sick guinea pig named Freddy, age 3. The good news is that Freddy is feeling much better, after being treated for Vitamin C deficiency but with little improvement, he was diagnosed with mites and was given several injections of meds (Inv-something, I forget the name). He's been eating and drinking much more now and as a result is, of course, peeing and pooping much more. So I have was wondering if anyone out there has suggestions on how I can keep his cage cleaner- that is if any one type of material is more absorbent or odor-eliminating than any others.
I am currently using plain wood shavings with a layer of newspaper underneath (which Freddy loves to uncover and chew up!). When I first got him I only had to change his cage about every 5-6 days, and now I am doing it every day or every other day. Is this normal for a healthy pig?
My thoughts go out to all those caring for a sick piggy-it is truly a tough job!
Wheeks,
Sue and Freddy
