Amy,

Our guinea pig had lumps that caused both nipples to eventually swell. We too opted to have surgery, and after removal lab tests were done to ascertain the exact nature of the lumps. It turned out to be low-grade cancer. Low grade meaning that the removal of the lumps were most likely was curative, and a low likelihood that it spread. But it was malignant, so surgery was necessary. Our piggy is doing great, staples were removed a week ago. We're so glad we had it taken care of, and that we were able to find a vet with experience with guinea pigs. Best wishes to you and your piggy!
