If your vet examines your pig and feels that the stress of surgery/illness
has caused his digestive system to slow down in addition to interfering with
his appetite (the two go hand-in-hand), Reglan & Cispromide
(gastric-motility drugs) may be in order. If a gpig's digestive-elimiation
system shuts down, the pig will not survive.
You may also need to hand-feed (syringe-feed) your gpig until his appetite
improves. Critical Care available at www.oxbowhay.com works very well. You
basically mix it w/ water and create a pellet mash. Hand-feeding takes time
& effort and it is not easy to get as much into the gpig as he nees, but a
pig that goes off feed cannot survive. You can also make homemade pellet
mash by soaking your pellets in a little warm water (better yet, grinding
them first), adding a little canned pumpkin or baby food carrots, and
syringe feeding the mash. Go to this link for how to handfeed:

Sending healing wheeks,
Sandy and the Tampa Krewe (especially from Taffy who has just gone through
this as a result of bladderstone surgery)
