[Gpdd] [Health]-arthritis and bladder stones (Howie)

Hey all! Well, x-rays confirm that Howie has a small bladder stone. A urinalysis showed that things looked pretty normal (very little blood, despite appearances and very few white blood cells). He will continue the baytril for the infection/irritation. Since he is 6 1/2 and the stone is so small I have opted not to do surgery. I will make sure that his calcium intake is reduced. He eats only timothy hay, Cavy Cuisine, and I will be careful with his veggies. I realize that it is harder for males to pass stones and that it could become lodged in his urethra so I will keep an eye on him. Does anyone have any other suggestions?

Also, the vet has put him on Metacam for his arthritis. Does any one have experience with this or arthritis in pigs?

Otherwise, Howie's poos are back to normal (yippee!!) and he is eating better. In fact, while we were waiting for the x-ray and urinalysis we played feed the pig with his hay. It is amazing how fast these guys can suck up food! :) Thanks to everyone who has offered suggestions and support. We both appreciate it.

Sarah and Howie (the rest of the gang also)
