[Gpdd] Health: Getting a Urine Sample, etc.

Hello Slaves,
Someone asked about getting a urine sample
(but I can't remember who) so I figured I'd
tell ya'll how I get a sample of Brownie Bear's
urine.

I use the top of a tupperware container, the
smallest size (it's about 2 inches in diameter)
and I pretty much wait for Brownie to squat like
she's gonna pee and then I quickly put the
top behind her...and let the juices roll in!

Brownie's pretty good about letting me get her
urine sample and I don't know if it's common
for a piggie to be good about that. She's the
only pig I've ever gotten a sample from. And
I've been doing it for so long now, she's used
to it.

Also, someone asked about symptoms of an ear
infection. One symptom is: If your pig is walking
sort-of tilted (like his/her head is tilted or
slanted when they walk). That's one possible symptom.

Moving on, some of ya'll were talking about
Yogurt being a Pro-biotic. If you have a stone
piggie, then you don't want to feed your piggie
yogurt because of the high calcium content. I gave
Brownie Bear some yogurt during one of her many
courses of Baytril and she ate it right up. But,
the Vet told me never to give her yogurt again
after she was diagnosed with a bladder stone.

Last but not least, I was reading about different
bedding options, and like the Okie Piggies, my
Brownie Bear prefers towels over regular bedding
too. Of course, since she's free range, I try to
give her the best of both worlds by putting hay
on her towels and then putting a hidey place on
top (like a pigloo). I change her towels twice a
day, so although the hay is messy, I don't mind
cleaning up. And after her surgery last December
I decided to keep her on towels even in her big
cage. Sure, I do a ton of laundry every wheeek,
but I'm saving about $20 buck-a-roos per wheeek
from not having to buy CareFresh.

Well, that's all she wrote!

        Love 'n Wheeeeeeeeeeps,
          Leah...Slave to Brownie Bear :-)
