Pine vs other bedding is the age old argument among rodent people--I use pine shavings & have been fine with it, but I tried Care-Fresh about a year ago.  Hated the stuff!  I'm a little fanatical about scooping out the wet stuff every night & this bedding absorbed everything in sight, so I had to scoop out most of it, which got very expensive.  There's also Yesterday's News, which is recycled something or other--haven't tried it.  I use pine shavings for my piggie & Aspen for my hamster--I open the bags when I buy them, to get the smell out before I use them--& everyone has been fine.  JUst stay away from cedar--that's a killer, literally!  Deb & Potter
