I think somebody mentioned the sad fact that a lot of guinea pigs (and other animals) given as presents, especially to children, end up being neglected after their novelty wears off. I worked a lot at a pet store right before Christmas, and every time I saw someone coming through the register with a hamster or a gerbil I couldn't help get a little worried. Anyway, I know that a lot of these animals will go to good homes, but just in case, I think I'll be checking up on the local animal shelter for a few months, in case there may be a worthy edition to our GP family waiting to be picked up.
