We had three cavies...Big Mama (who's probably 3 years old), her "baby" Emily (who turned 2 last month) and Cocoa (don't know his age as he was acquired from a pet store under protest of sorts-someone was going to use him as food for a snake and I just couldn't allow that!!!).

Big Mama and Emily had gotten their third treatment for mites on Wednesday. Last night, we found our beloved Emily dead in her pen. My heart is breaking...do you think she could have succumbed due to the mites? I know the vet said that they've seen several cases of mites and the precious ones died due to complications caused by the mites.

I just don't understand it...Emily was running around yesterday, but needed encouragement to eat her veggies last evening. Big Mama certainly knew that something was wrong last night. (She was in the same pen as Emily, and they haven't been separated since Emily was born.) Today, Mama is moping around. I feel so sorry for her.

Tearfully,
Marilynn
