Subject: Bumblefoot

Hi Beki -
I just read your posting about Gemma's bumblefoot problem and I might have a suggestion that will help. Our Ginger developed a bad case of bumblefoot after his 8th birthday. Along with the medication, I soaked his foot twice a day in a warm epsom salts bath. I took a custard cup and filled it halfway with very warm (not hot) water and then added 1T of epsom salts, stirring until dissolved. I would put a towel in my lap, put Ginger on the towel, and then placing the custard cup on the towel against my stomach, pull Ginger close and put the inflamed foot into the water. We would just sit and cuddle for 10-15 min or until the water became cool, then I would remove his foot from the cup, dry it off, and send him on his way. This worked well for us because it was Ginger's left front paw that was infected. It might be a little trickier if it's a back foot but it will still be worth the effort. Once you see a major improvement in the foot, drop the soakings down to once a day. Good luck and keep us posted on how things are going.
AnnaMarie, Eugene and Frodo
