Hi,

Your guy is "wasting", a natural part of the aging
process in cavies.  Sometimes it seems to happen
overnight, but being prey animals, cavies can hold off
these symptoms.  

I fostered a 5 yr. old cavy once.  He was very bone-y,
but otherwise healthy and alert.
