There are as many bad sites out there as there are many good sites concerning guinea pigs.
When you see sites such as this one, you have to wonder where they got their information from.
Cabbage should be given sparingly and carefully as it can cause bloat/diarrhea. Iceberg lettuce should not be given due to causing diarrhea if in excess.
I usually feed my pigs 1/2 cup of fresh varied veggies a day which can include romaine, chicory, endive, cucumber, bell peppers, a baby carrot every other day or so, kale and whatever else I can pick up and various fruits that they can have.

Hey all
i was just browsing the net, looking up cute pics of guinea pigs when i stumbled across this website
www.guinea-pigs-guinea-pigs.com/
this website suggests that lettuce is bad for guinea pigs?! lettuce makes up the majority of my piggies diet!!
im concerned now....it also says to feed them cabbage and i was always led to believe that cabbage was bad?
here's an extract:
"Guinea Pigs are vegetarians. In captivity they can be fed with prepared guinea pig food, supplemented with carrot, beetroot, broccoli, cabbage, peas, green leaves, but not lettuce, it causes colic. Sometimes a treat for your Guinea Pig can be fruits. "
My pigs get dry food for piggies, the right amount of vit C, fresh water and lettuce everyday as well as a mixture of the following variety (varies everyday) tomato, carrot, grass, lucern, capsicum and broccoli with an occasional apple as a treat.

What is the concensus out there on what constitutes a healthy well-balanced diet for pigs as far as fruit and vegies are concerned?
