Hi!

Sadly, last night (wed) Piglet did seem to be more uncomfortable. He was
making painful wheeking noises, and not peeing, just arching and
wiggling a bit. I was becoming quite aware that maybe he was becoming
too uncomfortable and it was up to one of us to say, "ok, let's meet up
again on the other side." I knew he had to be holding on for me... Some
pigs don't take well to illness at all and in his ~7 years of life, he
had already pulled through several close ones. I first noticed the
blood in his urine, him making his first appt at the vet on Feb 14th. He
had cleared up a bit and seemed to be doing well when I saw another spot
of blood in his urine again. I made an appointment on Tuesday to have
him seen that day, vet wanted to do an X-ray. When I saw that x-ray the
other day... It - the area in question was larger than or about the size
of a half dollar. That was supposed to be his bladder. The vet said,
without cutting him open there was no way to really say whether it was
one big stone or just a mass, but since it was in the bladder, had to do
with being calcified. SO for that 24 hours or so, he seemed ok.. But
then it was last night when I really started to rethink about how long I
wanted to let this go on and let him suffer.

When cuddling last night and all through the night I heard those same
noises and he was not rushing out at 4:30 am in the morning as I went by
from my hourly pees. For the past few weeks I have made a point to give
him a little cuddle as I went by... And he was just quieter last night (
not purring up a storm when I did so). SO when I brought out some greens
and russled the plastic, he did not run out and beg... And only Sugar
started wheeking. Not until I put it down did he go to eat. I then cut
up a whole tomato as well and let them both eat. I got up about 5 and
held him until about 7- knowing that he was in more discomfort than he
was willing to let on. While talking to the vet on the phone, I got some
apple and he only took 2 bites of it when normally he would snarf it
down. So after consideration, we took him to the vet. All he needed was
a little sleeping gas and he dozed off in my arms to check out rainbow
bridge. The vets are nice enough to hold onto him until Sugar passes-
and will only charge me one cremation fee of $150 since they are so
small. I will get the ashes back and have several urns waiting after
this next firing to choose from. I had Bill with me, and then spent the
day at a friend's house.

Holding on...
