Hi Slaves and Piggers!

Lucy and I saw the vet on friday and he confirmed that yes, she needed her
teeth trimmed. He wasn't keen to do it himself but instead referred me
to...get this... a specialist in rodent dentistry! Yes there is one! If you
are in Perth, Western Australia and would like her details, email me and I
will provide them. She was great. I was able to stay with Lucy through the
whole procedure so I could comfort her while she was going under and
recovering from the gas. She ground the teeth down using a small electric
tool a bit like an engraver. Lucy had a spur from one of her molars which
was trapping her tongue, so no wonder she has been so fussy about what she
would eat! Lucy was only under the gas for about 5 minutes (not counting
going under and coming back) so the stress on her little body was minimised.
The vet herself has a guinea pig who was surrendered to her at 400g and with
similar tooth problems and is now a healthy 1.4kg piggie. We are going back
in a week as it sometimes takes a couple of trims to get on top of this sort
of problem, but Lucy is eating like a horse and woke me up twice each of the
last two nights because she was hungry. She is still not on solids but I
have pain meds, vitamin C and a recovery mix similar to critical care for
her so it's looking good.

Fingers and toes crossed,

Robyn, Lucy and Lexie
