Dear Paige

I believe it is important for your piggy to have access to hay I sympathize
with the problem of price. Those bags of hay available in pet stores are
ridiculously overpriced. My suggestion is that you call around to feed
stores and price grass hay or timothy hay by the bale. An entire bail of
high quality hay costs me about $10 and last a long time (I have a lot of
Penny Giggles). Even if you have one piggy you can store your bale in a
clean dry and protected space (not plastic bags although I loosely wrap mine
in a tarp away from sun. Since its way more than you could use the rest in
the garden for mulch or compost or some other use. Having a lot of hay
available for bedding, play, and food gives a much higher quality of life
for your piggy. You can also order the best available hay online from Oxbow
Hay or American Pet Diner in various amounts.

As for the skinny pig part, is your piggy a girl? Sometimes hormone problems
or uterine tumors cause this, Is there any hair loss? Is she drinking more
water than usual? I think a trip to a good exotics vet is warranted. (they
don't generally cost more for a visit than a regular vet, but they are much
better at piggy problems. Often if the above is the problem it can be
treated by spaying or with medicine. There are lots of letters in the GPDD
archives about this)

To the group I offer my apologies for yesterdays mangled message, I hit send
instead of spell check (LOL). And happy birthday and happy wheeks to
everyone and every pig on the list. Pass the parsley and pile on the hay.
Wheek you all.

Sandy and the Penny Giggles
