Hello

None of my guinea pigs ever was stinky until Ginger. I
clean her cage twice as much as the other two and she
still stinks! I have a two towels under her pigloo and
two towels in a box at the other end of her cage. She
sleeps in those two places and I change the towels
twice a day and three times on my days off. She has a
wet bottom all the time and her urine seems to smell
worse than the rest. She get whatever she eats down
the front of her too. I thought she had teeth
problems, but the vet said she was very healthy. He
laughed and said she is just a sloppy, dirty pig.
I have to wash her butt every weekend. She's worse
than a male teenager! I've had her since Novermber and
she's happy, healthy, and very vocal.
I guess if you have a pig like this, you should keep
the cage as clean as possible. If their bottoms stink,
just was it and not the whole pig. I think as they get
older they tend to sleep more soundly and they don't
get up to pee. That's why their bottom is wet. They
told me at the shelter that Ginger was around two
years old.
