Hi Deb & Potter-
I hadn't heard the peroxide idea before for cleaning the water
bottles - it should be a good idea. Have you ever tried vinegar
to clean the bottles? That plain old white vinegar (probably
what you're using to clean the cage) is great for lots of
cleaning chores like that. Also, since we're on the subject,
since I've been putting a tiny bit of the apple cider vinegar
in the water bottle I haven't had any buildup or flakes, etc.
The water bottle always looks as if it's just been cleaned.
Are you sure you're not getting any kind of minute residue
from the rice grains or the qtips? I guess as long as you
work fast and rinse well it should be fine. I used to have
a bottle brush that had a small nipple brush on one end that
would be great for cleaning these tubes, but can't find one
now.
Speaking of bottles, I had to break down and buy LW his own
water bottle yesterday. We have a nice big square one in the
condo that I got at the feed store when I got Snowy, plus
one of those little blue ones I put in his bachelor pad. He
just doesn't like to use it at all, but drinks like crazy
when they have floor time and I put the big square one down
for them. So I found a round one similar and gave it to him,
and now he's drinking from it. It has a bit of apple cider
vinegar in it, with the liquid vitamins and a bit of cran/
grape juice in it. I tested that blue bottle every day to
see if it was working and I could always get water out of
it easily, so I don't know what his problem is.
Wheeks,
