Hi,

We are back from my sister's and picked up Honey from the Have-A-
Heart GP rescue in NJ.

What a sweet piggie. I can't understand someone neglecting her so
badly. She is healed from the horrid mite infestation and her
fur is grown back except for a few places where it is uneven. She
arrived at the rescue in Aug. and Marci started Ivermectin treatment
right away. Marci told us Honey was in such bad shape she almost had
her euthanized. But this tough little piggie survived! That is why
I call her Honey Braveheart and why Joe and I had to adopt her. She
is going to be loved so much.

She is very small and thin. You would never guess she is almost a
year old. We don't know if her previous owners fed her properly. She
is very happy to eat everything we give her. I hope she will fill out
nicely. I am keeping track of her weight. She weighs 605 grams now.

She has some sort of breathing problem I didn't know about. I am a
little upset Marci didn't tell me about it. Honey evidently had
pneumonia when she was with her original owner. They told Marci they
took her to a vet and she was treated for it. Why they didn't treat
her for the mites when she got them I don't know. Maybe they lied
about treating her. Anyway the mite problem was so bad Marci started
treatment for that and assumed the breathing was part of the sickness
caused by the mites. She breathes heavily, almost panting, and has a
raspy sound I can hear across the room. She doesn't act sick,
perhaps an allergy, the result of untreated pneumonia, or something
to do with the mites? I am taking her to my vet ASAP to get a
through check-up.

We let Juliet and Tacoma sniff noses with Honey, but she will live in
her own cage next to theirs for awhile. Once we know about her
health issues, and she has adjusted to us, we will give them floor
time together and see how it goes. Marci told us Honey likes all
animals including her cats and dog. The question is weather Juliet
will tolerate her. I would like them to share the same cage
eventually.

We are so happy to add Honey to our piggie family.

Dee and Joe
Tacoma: What's that? Another girl piggie for me to rumblestrut to?
Juliet: Not so fast boy. I'm the number 1 sow here!

PS: I took Honey to my vet and she has pneumonia. She is on Baytril. She
has had four doses and sounds better already. What a strong little girl.
She takes the Bene-bac right from my finger tip!
