Hi everyone,

Definitely take her to a vet as soon as possible!!!
Weight loss is caused by a number of things, but
weight loss is a very serious symptom and the cause
needs to be determined as soon as possible! Patches of
fur loss could also indicate a number of things, from
painful parasites and infections to hormones. Even if
your mother is eating, if she is losing weight that
means that her body is not getting the nutrition it
needs and could result serious organ damage and
eventually death.
I would seperate your boars from their mother now. I
have heard from other gpig owners and rescues who have
seen boars impregnate their mothers as early as 3
weeks. They do not always become fertile that young,
but it does happen and is not uncommon.
Are you giving the mother plenty of vitamin C and an
alfalfa-based pellet?
PLEASE take your piggie to the vet ASAP. We all hope
that she'll be ok!

Healing wheeks to everyone who has lost a piggie
lately.

One of my sows gave birth to 2 babies about a month
ago. She will be 5 yrs. old on Jan. 2nd. Up until
this week, she was always plump & her fur was full.
Just in the last couple of days, she has turned to
skin & bone with patches of her fur gone. She is
eating & drinking fine. She is starting to wean the
little ones. She is getting a little tempermental
also whereas before she was laid back & liked to be
held.

Any ideas?

Lori
