Colleen,
     My vet told me to give a baby aspirin for pain.  You can crush it and mix with either jelly (grape or strawberry) or baby food.  Another way of giving it is to just put in the back of the gp's mouth and let him chew it.  I've also given baby aspirin for fever.  One caution, the vet told me to only give it for two days and then take a break from it as it can be bad for their systems.  Needless to say, I only give it rarely.
