Hi, sorry for the delay in answering
I just looked up castration in Virginia Richardson's "Diseases of 
Domestic Guinea Pigs" and she states that
'Castration can be performed from 12 weeks of age, or when the guinea 
pig has reached 650g body weight'

650 gram is approx 1 lb 6 oz imperial (454 g=half lb)
