Hi,

Please can someone help me - I am a novice with guineas - only had them for two months.

One of my guinea pigs, Doris (2 yrs old) has got blood in their urine. Initially there was a discharge and occasional wet fur. Treating for cystitis, I syringe fed neat cranberry juice twice a day for 3 1/2 days (5ml each time). She also ate beetroot during this time. When her urine was slightly pink, I presumed that it was a combination of the beetroot and cranberry, but her urine is a lot darker in colour - just like blood, and both would have passed through her system by now (about 4 days ago).

I am obviously anxious that she might have bladder stones or worse (and I have read that guineas should not be anaesthetised for x-rays, etc).

I am really worried about taking her to the vet, as there seems to be so much unique to guineas that you need to watch out for.

If anyone in the UK knows of a experienced rodentologist/vet in Worcester, Worcestershire preferably, failing that West Midlands, PLEASE let me know their contact details, as I want to contact someone tomorrow asap.

My stomach is turning thinking about what it might be....

Any help and advice much appreciated.

Thanks,

Suzanne
