My niece Christine and I have one guinea pig, Pork Chop. She is under a year old and spoiled beyond belief. I had wanted to get another one for company but she is so spoiled I was afraid she wouldn't get along with another pig. We should have done it earlier but now it's hard. Anyway, with all the poor piggies down in Maryland we just had to take one. We couldn't do the transport, but Christine did get to the shelter and pick up one pig. She is almost all black with a tiny white spike down the top of her head and a bit of white on one side of her rump. Of course, she was very frightened and skittish when she first arrived. They have their own cages, but we put them down together for floor time. Pork Chop is an absolute beast. She is terrorizing the new piggie. Which is pretty funny because Newbie (we still haven't named her) is almost twice her size. They don't get into fights and bite each other but Pork Chop won't leave her alone. She has to be in exactly the same
space that Newbie is in and pushes her around. We put 2 dishes of food in, but Pork Chop has to eat Newbie's. Will this behavior stop? We took Pork Chop out of the play pen because she was being so fresh. Newbie became so calm and sweet. She was running around by herself and actually began a tiny modified pop corn. It made me so happy to see her enjoying herself. Will Pork Chop accept her eventually? By the way, Pork Chop learned how to climb out of the play pen and it's like a prison break. She runs to the fence, stands on her hind legs and stretches to the top, gets a grip with her front paws and boom, she's over and running. I actually think Newbie is considering a run for freedom. She seemed to be checking the fence out last night. Thanks for all the help.
