Grace: I recently put my new piggie Trix (neutered male) in the same cage with my very spoiled female CocoPuff. Thanks to the advice I received from many people here on the digest, they had a relatively smooth transition. When Trix first came home he was still intact, so we only put he and CocoPuff nose to nose for very short periods of time. The first day, CocoPuff squeaked and nipped at him, so I was worried about the final outcome. During the month we were waiting after Trix's surgery, we would put their cages close together and occasionally give them brief nose to nose time; so they at least knew each other's smell.

I really expected Trix to be the dominant one because he is larger, but I have learned that size is no way to determine outcome. CocoPuff is in charge - at first she (who had never accepted a carrot in her life) would steal his carrots and other veggies. She would run him around the cage and not really let him rest. She commandered his cuddlecup, even though she has one of her own. She really was a meanie. Eventually he had enough and will now protect his treats from her (the other day I saw him sneak up on her and steal a cucumber -- two can play that game).

Also, I bathed them both at the same time so they smell the same and cleaned both cages so the smells were less apparent. Both cuddle cups were washed at the same time as all the rest of the activity and new they both use each of them without too much fuss. They play peacefully together -it's been over a week - and are getting better at sharing.

Hopefully, slowly but surely your two girls will learn to get along. Don't give up.

Good Luck from Alicia, CocoPuff and Trix
