Hi and welcome to GPDD.  How long have you had guinea pigs?  Sounds to me that Guinea was just enjoying himself running and popcorning, then decided he was tired and went into the house to rest.  My pigs sometimes do the same things.
It doesn't sound like it wasn't in pain.  If he was in pain,he certainly wouldn't have been running around.  A guinea pig's heart beats very fast anyhow so that could have been a normal beat.
 
If a pig is in pain, some symptoms are:
grinding teeth (different then chattering and usually does the grinding slow)
sits hunched in corner, usually hair standing on end
shivers or quivers
doesn't eat
doens't want to walk, with pain, may hop
may whimper
 
Is the vet you took Guinea to an Exotics, if not, you need to find another one.  This vet doesn't seem to know what he is talking about.
