I believe I've read several times on the ferret list that pineapple juice does nothing to break up hair balls.  Some people give their ferrets the hair ball remedies for cats which are petroleum based with added sugar and flavoring.  A lot of us just give our ferrets pure Vaseline petroleum jelly with no added perfumes as a hair ball preventative.  My ferret laps it off my skin.  The Vaseline makes the hair slide along the digestive tract and out.  I haven't given it to Smudge yet.  Has anyone used Vaseline as a preventative?
