Reese is an "only pig", and he is my baby! I rescued him (literally) from the woods behind my house some 2 1/2 years ago, where someone "dumped" him. I was not expecting to have a GP in my life, so I knew absolutely nothing about how to take care of him. We were both pretty afraid of each other. I looked for his owner for a week, before even giving him a name, because I thought that someone must be heartbroken at having their GP run away. When no owner was found, I named him "Reese" for Recycled Guinea Pig (I also had no idea if he was a male or a female, and Reese could be either). Anyway, Reese is at least 3 years old now. It is just the two of us, and I work full-time. Before I leave for work, I put his cage in the living room, where he can see outside, and leave the radio on (he likes "smooth jazz"), and he gets "floor-time" before and after work and lots of attention on the weekends. He also gets "lap-time" every evening. Reese goes on vacations that I can drive to (he
loves riding in the car) and he gets to visit his human grandparents almost every week (they love him, too). I sneak Reese into motels at the beach (that is a different story), and I have friends who babysit him, if I have to go out of town. When travelling anywhere, you just have to be very careful that they are not exposed to any drafts (including air-conditioning). His favorite toy is a medium-sized McDonalds bag, with the top folded back a few times, that he hides in, tear up, and pokes holes in the back.

Anyway, I am a GPDD regular reader, sometimes-contributer, and Mommy to Reese. This is a great community (family) of people, and just want you to know that you can give a pretty good quality of life to one piggy, if that is what you choose to do.

My sincere condolances to those who have lost their little guys. My heart goes out to you.
