The Okie Piggies send their deepest condolences on the recent losses,
those dear pigs who left too soon for the Rainbow Bridge, including our
dear friends Snickers, Holly, and Misty. They have already left a hole
in the hearts of their friends and family here, but we know that they are
happy and healthy and in very good company there at the Bridge. They
also teach us to cherish each day we have with them, we never know
when one of us won't wake from that nap.
We also send piggie prayers and healing kisses to all those who are
suffering from illness or injury. And a reminder to take their medicine,
no matter the taste!
And unfortunately, we must also ask for such prayers for our own dear
Lil' Whistle, who in the past few days has been feeling poorly, even to
stop eating even his most favorite treat - parsley. Yesterday morning
he went to a highly recommended exotics vet, who pronounced him
ok other than an infection, prescribing an antibiotic and suggesting
diet, much like that we usually follow with a sick piggie. (Mashed pellets,
acidophillis, pedialyte, juices) He agreed with the crangrape juice we
give him, but also suggested pineapple juice because of the enzyme
it has to help with tummy problems.
In addition, he is getting a bit of Metamucil mixed in some plain Ensure
(there is a similar product for animals, but this is cheaper) and the
mashed pellets and acidophillis. Also, he is getting a mixture of fig and
blueberries (chopped or mashed), and today tried a bit of apple and
sweet potato baby food (hey Mikey - he liked it!).
He continues to resist everything, but with some persistence we get it
down him. More inside than outside, luckily, because we all know that
a sticky pig is not a happy pig.
After the first dose of Baytril he did seem a bit better, so that is encouraging.
His dear Rosie accompanied him to the doctor, offfering moral support and
to help eat whatever he might find along the way. (She was a bit surprised
not to be the center of attention, other than the girl who thought she was a
rabbit) But she does enjoy taking the blankie whenever LW ventures off
of it for a minute.
So while we are enjoying all the mashing and mixing and dosing, several
times a day, then stuffing minute amounts of goo down a wriggly pig, we
also ask for your prayers, knowing that is what he needs most of all. In
fact, if it weren't for the prayers for a safe and speedy trip the 30+ miles
to the vet, through Saturday traffic and construction zones, past a police
station and highway patrol headquarters, we would not likely have made
it in the 20 minutes we had!
We appreciate your support, and will report again on his progress.
