[Gpdd] HEALTH: Geriatric pigs and sterility

Hi everyone again,

If it isn't one thing it is another here at the rescue... Today as I was cleaning cages and giving the once over on everyone, I was looking at Tabasco who is a female and is at least 5 years old. She shares a split cage with Sonny, my three-toothed male. This is apparently how they have always lived in this split cage and granted it is not impossible to get from one side to the other although it is difficult enough that I have never seen them try.

However, as I was looking at Tabby's underside today she had a MUCUS PLUG in her hoo-hoo! Now please tell me that females just happen to get these sometimes and that Sonny didn't just mosey his way over there and sneak back to his own side without leaving a trace of their tryst.

Then my next question is when do pigs become infertile if ever? Because I don't know Tabby's history. I don't know if she has ever had babies which we all know is very very bad if she becomes pregnant now. Not to mention she is retired and has problems of her own.

I have since made the separator like Fort Knox just in case and have been hoping that Sonny doesn't have any "little swimmers."

Where there is a "wenis" there is a way I suppose.

Anyway, I need more help please and reassurance that females just spontaneously generate these mucus plugs and that my Tab-Tab and Son-bun did not have some secret love session.

Thanks again,
Lisa and the gang at Wheeks and Squeaks
