I do it all the time.  I place each one in a separate carrier and I
place one towel inside the carrier underneath them.  Then I surround
them with towels so that they can relax on top of, or under the towels.
It acts as a igloo for them.   I also hang a hay rack against the grid
door so that they can eat while traveling.  It makes it comfortable for
them.  I cover their cages when taking them to the car and of course I
heat the car before I even put them in it.
