I misunderstood Jennifer's post. Apparently her vet did NOT remove the  
tumor. He just did the biopsy. argh.
 
This is what my vet says about them, and I have always had them  removed:
 
"Needle biopsies of breast masses are rarely diagnostic since they are of a  
cell type that doesn't exfoliate (which means you can't get scales for biopsy, 
 so they are almost always negative).  Plus, even benign tumors can  
transform into malignant ones with time.  I recommend removing them when  they are 
small."
