Rachel,
I have heard many more bad things about giving a Guinea pig a wheel. First, they should never have a wire wheel as the wires can hurt their delicate foot pads. Second, many wheels don't have enough weight to balance properly with a 2-3 pound Piggie running in it.

I have found it's much better to set up a Piggie Pen for at least 1-4 hours each day to allow them to run and play in a new area. Set it up on a blanket or tarp to keep any mess off your floor, and make clean up faster. I make sure mine play pen has lots of space (more than their cages), boxes with tunnels cut into them, toilet paper rolls and paper bags to chew, and - of course - water, timothy and their pellets. You can make little mazes out of the boxes and the boxes also serve as great chew toys. I also put a couple big towels under a couple of boxes for them to rest and burrow in when they need "nap time."

All 3 of our boys get excited when they get Piggie pen time. I have never seen so much popcorning, excited running, and happy talk as when they all get to be in the play pen. I think the change of scenery is fun for them. It's like taking your kids to a playground, only this one can be right in your home!

As for snow peas in the pod, I have read in multiple places that they are fine. I keep offering them to my boys, but they never seem interested.
