Hi everyone. I learned another valuable lesson which fortunately did not
result in a severe injury or death. I don't know if anyone has seen or use these
(I don't remember the name or maker) round, wire balls that you hang in your
pet's cage. They have a bell that hangs off the bottom and a small opening
through which you can place fruits, veggies or treats. I was sitting on the
couch in the living room and heard a bell ringing, which I didn't think anything
of because our bird is located in the kitchen and has a toy with a bell. Then
I heard my dog kind of growling/half-barking in the kitchen, so I went in to
investigate. I walked through the kitchen and to my office where I keep the
girls. What I found terrified me to no end. For some reason, Ashi decided that
she wanted to crawl inside the ball and ended up getting her herself stuck.
She was lying motionless on her side with her back legs sticking straight out
and her head stuck in this wire ball. I thought she had broken her neck. I
was in such a panic, it seemed like forever before I could get the child's gate
out of the doorway (can't remember why I just didn't step over) but when I
finally got there, she started moving again. That's when I quickly scooped her
up and removed that hideous contraption from her off her head. I was so
relieved (but probably not as much as Ashi) that she came through unscathed. It
was snuggle time and a slice of green pepper after that.
It seems like something silly a guinea pig would do and I kind of chuckle
about it in retrospect but man, did it scare me to death! So here's the moral of
the story: don't leave items in which your guinea pigs can get themselves
stuck. And thank goodness for Scout If it hadn't been for her, I wouldn't have
known what was going on.
