[Gpdd] health: styptic powder?

hey all
has anyone ever heard of styptic powder? i wonder if i got the spelling right. anyways i was watching that show on pbs "petkeeping with marc (don't know how to spell his last name)" and he was demonstrating how to clip ferrets nails. to keep them occupied, he would squirt some ferret vitamin out of a tube onto the ferrets tummy to keep him occupied while he cut his nails. marc said if you ever clip the quik, that you can use styptic powder to stop the bleeding. i wonder if anyone has used it with piggies and if they have, can i get this stuff at the commissary? for those non military folk, it's our grocery store...any help would be appreciated.
