Regarding Frodo's spurs, I can say that my Poly pig has spurs also. Your 
bedding sounds fine.  I believe that it is hereditary because my other pig Sweetie 
does not have them, and neither had other pigs I owned in the past. 
I found out that the best way to trim them is to soak them in water first, 
and then to clip them off with baby clippers or rounded scissors. They seem to 
grow back very fast.
