Good day to Mickey and all our friends at GPDD,
Maybe you could change the type of bedding that you use to one that is
paper-based, such as Care Fresh. These don't tend to be as dusty as the
wood-based shavings. Some of our friends use towels, which they wash every
day, as an alternative. These are easier on delicate piggie feet, and you
wouldn't have to vacuum as much. About the hay, I don't know what you can do
about that, as piggies do need lots of hay. I, too, am allergic to hay and
dust, so I know how miserable that can be. I have a prescription for
Allegra, 180 mg, which I take once a day for my allergies. I haven't noticed
any side effects with this medication, while with others, like Benedryl, I
felt drowsy. It has really made a difference for me...no more hives or
sneezing when I handle bedding material or hay. Before that, I would wear a
particle mask over my nose and mouth while cleaning cages. This also helped
some. I hope that some of these suggestions will help.
Best wishes,
Sherry and the Piggie Pals
