Hi all,

I read about the issues after feeding a piggy cat grass and cat grass is not at all the same as catnip. Cat grass is usually wheat or rye or oat grass which is perfectly safe and delicious and healthy for piggies but remember all new things should be fed in moderation. Just as you would feed regular grass clippings in the spring in moderation so as to not upset their little tummies, you should also start slow with this sort of grass.

Catnip is a member of the mint family and is not toxic to pigs. It is also called catmint and can be used in the teas people make to help gas and bloating. Most pigs do not prefer it because of its inherently strong smell but it is not a poison. It looks nothing like grass. Catnip has a thick stalk with large leaves and gives off a noticeable odor. Cat grass has no odor.

As a side note, it is much cheaper to grow this grass yourself by going to the health food store and buying unprocessed oat groats, wheat berries, or rye berries for $0.49/lb and grow it in a pot of your choice of size. Cats, dogs, and pigs all love it and it is good for them all.

Be well everyone,
Lisa and the gang at Wheeks and Squeaks, mourning Jack and Zippy every minute of every day
