Some may remember me posting last month about Sweetie Pie's cyst. I had made the decision to leave it alone and watch it. After that, she started getting cranky (maybe that time of the month) and Sweetie and Pumpkin started fighting. They are in a big C&C cage, with an upper level for the younger, lighter Pumpkin to hide in, but she seemed to asked for trouble. (Maybe she wanted to be boss). Anyway, I left them alone to work it out, no signs of biting, but then Pumpkin started to act sick. She stopped eating and drinking and would stay huddled up for hours. (Of course it was Sat afternoon after the vets closed.) On Monday, the vets diagnosed a fungle infection on her nose, triggered by stress, no big deal. And also dehydration she was given an injection of fluids for, and nothing else obvious except for a lot of soreness on her sides and abdomen. We think from maybe being kicked in the fighting. So we have them separated and are giving Pumpkin antibiotics for a possible infection. Since she was sore, she might have been scratched as well. I thought she was going to die when she let me pick her up without running. She was weak from not eating and drinking. Thankfully, I think she turned a corner last night, I saw her drinking on her own, and eating a carrot when she thought I wasn't looking. I never thought I would be happy that she's hard to catch when she ran from me this morning. Signs of life again! Now I really wish I had thought to buy the Critical care feed for things like this. Next time I will be prepared. Anyway, she still needs close watching. Now my problem is, how do I get them back together? I don't want them hurt, but I don't want them lonely, besides, I don't have room for a 2nd cage. Any thoughts? They used to get along great, with bigger Sweetie being the boss, but Pumpkin won't learn to leave her alone. Sorry this is so long, thanks for the support in advance.
