I have had two piggies who produced "monster Poo". My vet taught me how to
assist with the passing of a large bolus of poo which impacted one of my
boys and told me that this condition is not uncommon in "older" males.
Peter Gurney describes this procedure in the section titled "anal
impaction" of his "a to z" online book. Peter's description sounds as if he
discards the ejected poop but I am not sure that this should be done.
Piggies, afterall, do find some poop nurishing!

Goose, the second pig I have had with this conditon, does not actually
become impacted, and seems annoyed with my attempts to assist him. For this
reason, I leave him to handle the situation on his own but I monitor it
closely. Our relationship has improved with my new "hands off" approach!

Happy monster mashing!, Celia

PS. Thanks to all the slaves who have responded to the Animal Planet Abuse.
Piggies need us all to speak in their behalf. It is comforting that so
many do care about these little guys. Animal Planet should be ashamed of
their ignorance in insenitivity.
