A few wheeeks! ago we noticed that Biscuit had a tuft of hair under his chin
sticking out and we were concerned but it did not seem to be troubling him
in any way, but we kept our eye on him.
We noticed that the hair had become matted under his chin and we could
clearly see a lump. In a bit of a panic we took him to the vet's at the store
where we bought him and he was excellent. We were advised that he had an
abscess and we were fortunate to have noticed it and brought him in. The vet
cleaned out the abscess, Biscuit was very distressed by this but remained very
brave throughout but found time to Wheee all over my husband and the vet cleaned
him. We were given a five day course of antibiotics to give him and to take
him back.
When we got home an amazing thing happened, Biscuit was not feeling very
socialble and wanted to be left alone in his Pigloo and Tea was going to see
that this happened and actually stayed in front of the entrance and took food
into Biscuit.
Over the next five days my husband and I cleaned Biscuit and gave him his
antibiotics with great difficulty at first attempt Biscuit actually grabbed the
syringe out of my hands and threw it on the floor. It became easier
especially as Biscuit got some cucumber and parsley and the end for his troubles.
(Tea was not excluded from this nor did he neglect his nursing duties)
After the five days we returned to the vets who was amazed by Biscuit's
progress and had to reminded where the abscess was as it had completly healed.
If you notice anything like this on your's do not hesitate to take them to
the vet's as the sooner it is dealt with the less painful it will be for your
Guinnea Pig masters.
The only advice we can give on administering the antibiotics is hold them
firm and be quick with the plunger!
Thank you to those of you at GPDD for your helpful advice.
